Baby Safety

Alice Campbell asked:

There’s nothing more amazing and fulfilling than going home with a beautiful, healthy baby. Still, once we arrive home our worries seem to overwhelm us, most parents being paranoid when it comes to baby care and baby safety. Although one can find out a lot from books, experience is the best way to learn parenting, so don’t be afraid if you don’t handle things perfectly from the very beginning.

We suggest getting all the help you need from your closest friends and family in order to get through this hectic, overwhelming time. Since baby feeding and baby caring can be very exhausting, especially in the first period, you need all the help you can get. The first ones that can teach you a couple of things about how to take care of your baby are the nurses, who know everything about holding, burping, feeding according to baby formulas and changing diapers and who don’t mind sharing their knowledge.

Another aspect that most parents are concerned with especially in the first months of their baby is safety. Don’t be afraid to use the expertise around you and to resort to feeding specialists who can help you with baby feeding. When it comes to baby parenting, finding a mummy substitute who will nurture and care for your child can be quite a challenge. However, most mothers resort to professionals after birth either because they can’t afford staying home or because they don’t think they are capable to take care of their baby all the time, preferring to pay a professional.

Babies’ fragility is most of the time intimidating, making parents feel very worried about their baby safety. Those of you who are new in the field of parenting, should learn how to support their baby’s head and neck when carrying him. Furthermore, don’t shake your newborn because this can cause bleeding and make sure that he is always securely fastened into the carrier or car seat.

Bonding represents one of the most pleasant aspects of baby care and it occurs after birth when parents start connecting with their baby. Physical closeness will help you have an emotional connection with your newborn and this connection will play a major role in the emotional development of your child. Furthermore, most babies love talking, singing, cooing and listening to music. Singing and poetry reciting are funny and represent the great part of parenting and at the same time they are useful in order to form a bound with your baby.

Babies are fragile, being sensitive to light, touch and even to certain sounds and advice will include everything one should avoid for the sake of baby safety. For your child’s safety you will have to pay attention to his crib so that he can’t fall when he is sleeping, keep hot food away from him, and prevent any falls, fires, burns or other unpleasant events that might affect your child’s health. Make sure your baby can’t reach any sharp objects, always verify what he is chewing and don’t forget to select carefully the toys he can play with, in order to avoid any possibility of him getting hurt.

Also, pay a lot of attention to baby feeding, because the food that he eats should be given to the baby according to his age and body necessities. Babies are fragile and their eating habits can affect their digestion or their long term growth. Their physical health is very much influenced by the amount of calcium, magnesium and other minerals which are essential due to bone growth. So, baby feeding is in fact a health safety issues!

As you can see, babies are more complex than you might think, their development being a stress factor for most parents. However, you can always learn how to protect your baby and how to provide him the environment he needs for a healthy growth and a happy childhood. So inform yourself and learn all about baby parenting!

Baby Formula Question?

Eric asked:

Ok this might be a book but your help is appreciated.

My daughter is 9 weeks old. She started off on enfamil regular with lipil(milk based, their closest formula to ****** milk). This formula was causing her to projectile vomit. They did an upper gi and ultrasound to make sure everything inside was working well and it is so the vomiting was attributed to the formula possibly because of a milk allergy. The doctor then put her on enfamil prosobee soy based formula which constipated her really bad and made her stool very large and hard. We tried dark karo syrup, prune juice and neither would soften up her stool(a couple times it made her **** bleed). The doctor then put her on enfamil gentlease, a formula that has the milk lactose partially broken down for easier digestion(not fully broken down though so thus not lactose free). This formula proceeded to make her projectile vomit also. I just called the doctor and told her this and she told me to put her back on the prosobee soy based formula that constipates her.

My issue with this is that
A) no matter what we try to do to soften her stool when she is on the soy, it is still hard and I am afraid it will cause more trauma to her rectum.

B) We heard the doctor tell another patient in the next room over that there are an increasing number of babies on soy formula and soy is not good for babies.

C) It seems to me that she has a allergy to lactose and that if we gave her another enfamil product called lactofree which is milk based but lactose free, it would solve our constipation(no soy) and vomiting(no lactose) problems.

What should I do? Put her on the lactofree on my own?
